Twisp
People are always curious about how the town of Twisp got its name. One author claimed “Twisp” was a modification of the Indian word: “T-wapsp”, which meant yellow jacket. Others agreed that the name was derived from Chinook jargon, the local Indian language, but countered that the original spelling was “Twistsp” to imitate the sound of a buzzing wasp. Whichever is accurate there are definitely enough wasps and wasp buzzing in late summer to support both ideas.
Twisp is located at the confluence of the Twisp and Methow Rivers. It is a town rich in history, characters and a lot of tall tales. Many tall tales can be overheard at the local eateries like the Antlers, Mick & Miki’s, Twisp Brew Pub, Cinnamon Twisp Bakery, Locals, Hometown Pizza and Salsas.
