Mazama
A small town composed of the Mazama Country Store, Mazama Country Inn, North Cascades Lodge, Mazama Ranch house, Freestone Inn and few commercial offices located at the head of the Methow Valley. It received its name in 1899. Sources claim Mazama is a Spanish term for a type of mountain deer, which lives in the Andes. However, most people believe it means mountain goat, since many goats inhabited the steep country around Mazama at one time. The latter definition is consistent with the names of other landmarks in the area Goat Peak, Goat Creek and Goat Wall.
Mazama offers great access to North Cascades and Pasayten Wilderness, Methow Valley Ski Trails and Harts Pass. Treed and open spaces are greatly protected by conservation easements and state lands.
Close proximity to the pristine wilderness and easy access to the North Cascade Highway are only two reasons that many homeowners and second homeowners prefer this area of the valley. Sunny, treed, riverfront and view communities like Chechaquo, Wilson Ranch, Lost River, and Foster Guest Ranch are just waiting for your private tour. Give us a call and let us share them with you.
