Carlton

The small town 12 miles south of Twisp was named after storekeeper Carl Dillard, who owed the land on which the town was built.  Women at a local Ladies Aid meeting wanted to express their gratitude to Carl for opening a store in their area, so they named their settlement Carlstown, shorten to Carlton.

Carlton, along State Route 153 near the Okanogan National Forest is a small community surrounded by trees, mountains and rivers. Great fishing and swimming holes are abundant.  Carlton General Store provides gas, merchandise and a good reminder of the perseverance and ingenuity of this central valley community.  The Carlton Restaurant will be serving up something special to eat!
